New S-06 strap

An entry about straps? Why would we give that much attention to a little piece of rubber? Great question.  The answer?  For all the looks you can achieve with our Faux Beams, and how handy they are.

Reach for straps especially when you have two beams that you want to butt up to one another.

The strap hides the seam and you are left with the appearance of one long beam.

Plus it adds a surprising decorative element. They are so easy to cut to fit, and install.

Some ideas:

You can use the straps even when you don’t have a seam, just to achieve the look.

You can add straps to either end of the beam to give the look that the straps are holding the beam up.

In the latest edition of Better Homes and gardens magazine, our Yellowstone faux wood mantle was used as a shelf to show a great way to decorate a fireplace.

Two other mantle shelves were also shown on the same fireplace, and ours had the lowest price!

Placing straps on beams

Beam straps can be used to cover up seams on a beam, or they can even be a decorative element. We will show you a few ways that straps can be creatively used in a few different situations you may come across, as you are installing your beams.

A seam in the middle of the room

1. In this situation, you have two separate beams that you are running across your ceiling, you can place a strap in-between them to make them appear as one long beam.

After

A seam that is off centered in the room

2. In this situation, you can place one strap over the seam, and then another one on the opposite side of the beam to balance out the look.

Before

After

A large beam centered in the room with smaller peices on either side

3. When want a symmetrical look and prefer not to have a strap in the center of the room, you can place two shorter beams on each end, then place straps over the seams.

Before

After

Adding straps, solely as a decorative element

4. If your beam spanning completely between the two walls, you may choose to place straps at each end of the beams as not to reveal the edges of the beam that are butting up against the wall.

Helpful Tip Tuesdsay – Beam Stretching tool

A beam stretching tool? Yes, there is such a thing. It is called a strap! Our straps can add on some extra length if need, as well as adding a stylish look to your beams. Take a look at the way this customer used three straps to make the ridge beam of a truss system that was 20 foot long fit a room that is roughly 21 feet long.
The ridge beam of the truss project was cut in half. One strap put at either gable ends of the wall and one in the middle.
The straps only need to overlap the beam an inch or so.
Like magic, it gives the impression that the beam runs the full length of the room. What will the guests see? Just beautiful beams that radiate warmth and character, pure eye candy! Only you will know that it’s faux!
