Smooth Recessed Wood Box Beams—Furniture Grade

Our furniture-grade smooth recessed wood box beams are constructed differently from our other box beams. To achieve their elegantly detailed recessed design, we do not use a locking miter in the corners. Instead, we use a ¼" deep dado joint on the side boards to which the bottom board is attached. As in all box beams, we attach stiffener blocks and glue and nail all joints.

For beams over 16 feet long, we use butt joint boards. We attempt to minimize the visibility of these butt joints by staggering their location along the three faces of the box beam. We also attempt to match the grain and coloration of the boards at the joint. To further stabilize the butt joint, we use bisquit joiners.

Note: Due to the irregularities in wood box beams, the inner dimensions of the box beams will vary. Please be careful when cutting through these beams.
