If you have a room in your house that you’d like to add a little character to it...maybe make it look a little beefier. Adding some wood beams just like these is a good way to do it. Now, you can buy real wood beams OR you can use the faux wood beams that we have here. They’re much lighter — much less expensive.
To do this yourself, you’re going to need some tools. You’re going to need a tape measure, a chalk line, an angle finder, a level, a chop saw, a hand saw and a cordless drill. The steps are pretty easy. You CAN get this done.
First, choose your design, then place your order. We’ve chosen a rough sawn wood look and we placed the order with the company and it looks just like wood.
Once you’ve done that, decide your layout. We’ve decided to go over the existing lights.
Once you choose your layout, then run a chalk line so that you know that you’re completely straight.
After you’ve run your chalk line, you can apply your mounting blocks to the ceiling to give yourself something to screw into.
Then you find your angle using your angle finder. Then you mark it and you make the cut with your hand saw.
Put it into place. Make sure it fits. If it does fit, then you simply screw from each side of the wood beam into your mounting block.
This entire process can take you four to five hours or a couple of days... depending on how fast you want to work. And once you’re finished, you’ve changed the entire look of your room and you’ll be much happier with it...AND you’ve done it yourself.
